VFW POST 3137
THE POST ON THE COAST
November 2008 Newsletter
Comrades and friends of the Post 3137, Isle of Palms, South Carolina, I will attempt to put these out at least every 2 months or whenever events warrant. I will only send the newsletter via email, to "reduce our carbon footprint" and avoid the added cost. The Ladies Auxiliary is kind enough to post the newsletters to our website, so you can always find it on our website: http://www.post3137.vfw.sc/ Select Monthly Newsletter from the menu, and choose the month of your choice. I welcome any comments/suggestions for future newsletters.
NEW FACES:
We often talk amongst ourselves/regulars, not taking the time to introduce ourselves to anyone new that walks in I encourage everyone to make the effort to introduce yourself, and make a new person feel welcome (each and everyone one of us was a new face at some point in time!). Some folks are simply passing through, and others are potential future members of our post; we want them all to walk out of our post with a positive experience.
SICK CALL:
Jimmy Woods is fighting his cancer as well as anyone can hope. Please keep Jimmy, Virginia and their family in your thoughts and prayers. Jimmy still makes it out to see the Post and Comrades as often as he can, and it is always great to see him!!
ANNUAL VFW GOLF TOURNAMENT:
The golf tournament (September 28th at Wild Dunes) was very successful; Great golf, Great people, Great food an overall great day for all that were involved! Im told we had one of the largest turnouts for our tournament in history!! I personally wrote a Thank You and provided a Certificate of Appreciation to every sponsor for the tournament. Our success was directly related to each one of our sponsors. In addition, we have a list of these sponsors mounted in our Post; please return the favor by supporting these businesses!
VETERANS DAY:
We had a great turnout at the Post on Veterans Day, November 11th. I was lucky enough to meet one of our new members, and we actually had a young man (recently out of the service) in our Post inquiring about membership!! The future of our Post rests in the hands of these young men and women coming in to visit, and enjoying themselves enough to want to join OUR POST!
NEW T-SHIRTS:
The Mens Auxiliary received a new selection of Post 3137 t-shirts. We now have a great selection: 3 colors of long-sleeved shirts and 3 colors of short-sleeved shirts to choose from! Be sure to support our Post and show pride in our Post by purchasing these shirts (either for yourself, or as a gift!!). Short sleeved = $16 Long sleeved = $18
JINGLE BELL RAFFLE:
The Ladies Auxiliary is having a 50/50 raffle. $10 per chance, and theres only a limited number of bells to purchase!! Please support the Ladies, as they do so much for our Post.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 6th 2008:
The Ladies Auxiliary is having a Christmas Party with the Shakin Martinis as the band!! Please bring an appetizer to share, and the admission is simply a donation to the Angel Tree for the Veterans Victory Home in Walterboro. The Shakin Martinis have always given us a great show, so please plan to attend and SPREAD THE WORD!!
THURSDAY DECEMBER 18TH 2008:
The annual Members Christmas Party is scheduled for this date. Its always a great time to visit with friends, and unwind a little in the midst of the holiday season. Hope to see you there!
SUPER BOWL PARTY:
The date for the game is February 1st 2009; this is always a sell out party, and a good time for all (By far the best Super Bowl party Ive ever been to!!). See our bartenders for information!!
THIS N THATS:
I want to say "Thank You" to all who have volunteered time and effort to make VFW Post 3137 a friendly post for all to enjoy, and a valuable entity to support and service our troops and Veterans.
We ask that God watch over all of our troops, our members, their families, and all veterans, especially those that have been disabled while performing their duties of great sacrifice to maintain our freedom and precious way of life.
Our next scheduled monthly meeting is December 8th 2008.
Darrin Voke
