VFW Post on the Coast

March 2009 Newsletter

Greetings, Comrades and friends of the Post 3137, Isle of Palms, South Carolina. I will only send the newsletter via email, to "reduce our carbon footprint" and avoid the added cost. The Ladies Auxiliary is kind enough to post the newsletters to our website, so you can always find it on our website: http://www.post3137.vfw.sc/ Select Monthly Newsletter' from the menu, and choose the month of your choice. I welcome any comments/suggestions for future newsletters. Please keep me updated if your email address changes!

ELECTIONS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER:
Post elections are only a couple of weeks away!! Please be considering who you'd like to have serve our Post, and show them support, as they'll need it.

NEW T-SHIRTS:
The Men's Auxiliary still has some Post 3137 t-shirts available for sale. We have a great selection of long-sleeved and short-sleeved shirts to choose from! Be sure to support our Post and show pride in our Post by purchasing these shirts (either for yourself, or as a gift!!). Short sleeved = $16 Long sleeved = $18

PARKING AT THE BEACH:
Just a reminder - the IOP will begin ticketing for parking this coming week, so be sure to pay for you parking ticket, and put it on your dash!! Trust me - they'll gladly write you a ticket if you haven't paid to park!!

NEW VFW SIGN on the WINDJAMMER:
For those that have not noticed, we have a new VFW sign mounted on the side of the Windjammer! Hopefully, this will help direct those that have a difficult time finding our little piece of paradise! Many Thanks' to Malcolm for letting us put the sign on the Windjammer!!

MEN'S AUXILIARY:
The Men's Auxiliary has purchased another (huge) flat screen television for the Post!! I'm not sure if it is a 50" or 52", but "Wow!" - What a picture on this thing!! Thanks to Jesse and Odis for mounting on the wall!! Personally, I feel that it is amazing the improvements that the new TV's have had on the Post over the last year and a half. Walking into our Post, and seeing several large flat screen TV's mounted on the walls kinda rejuvenates the place in my eyes - makes our Post look more current.'
The Men's Auxiliary has also purchased a new back door for us. The old one was wooden, and was rotting quite rapidly (what do you expect when we're lucky enough to sit on the beach!!). I'm sure once this new door is installed, we'll get several years of use!
I want to personally Thank' the Men's Auxiliary for their continuous contributions to the Post. Through their creative fund-raising of TV raffles, and even a Cruise raffle, their energy is greatly appreciated. They take positive actions with the funds that they raise, and we all get to enjoy it. "Thank You Men's Auxiliary!"

LADIES AUXILIARY:
First off, I want to say "Thanks to the Ladies" for the card and gift they provided to me while I was recovering from my hip replacement surgery. All of you are wonderful and very much appreciated.
The Ladies held their annual Chili Cook-Off on March 14th, 2009, and it was quite a success! We had thirteen contestants, and Allen Sinkler was the winner. (Good Job Allen!) The Ladies provided a DJ for the evening, and he was great!! There was a variety of music, the volume was great, and I hope to see him back at our Post again in the future.
Something I always notice about the events that the Ladies do is this: They're always well coordinated and properly staffed. They make sure that they have enough people working, so that they can actually socialize and enjoy themselves while working, without worrying about something slipping through the cracks. Leading an event is NOT easy; they just make it look that way.every time.
Something New: The Ladies are going to start doing appetizers the first Wednesday night of the month from 7-9:00pm.This first time will start on Wednesday April 1st; they'll try it out for three months to see how well it goes. The plan is for a different appetizer each time, and they're starting us out with WINGS on April 1st!!! I'm excited!! This is a great idea, and I'm told $5 gets you 12 wings!! This is a Good deal!! Wings, beach and beer..I'll see you there for sure!!

"HOT HAPPENING" EVENTS:

Every Friday from 6pm to 8pm:
Friday night is Burn Your Own Steak Night with baked potato and salad.
The price is only $12.00 for dinner at the beach!!

First Wednesday of the Month:
Appetizers provided by the Ladies Auxiliary from 7-9:00pm
April 1st menu = WINGS!!

FISH FRY on April 4th:
Fish and Fixin's from 6-8:00pm

THIS N' THAT'S:

  • I want to say "Thank You" to all who have volunteered time and effort to make VFW Post 3137 a friendly post for all to enjoy, and a valuable entity to support and service our troops and Veterans. We ask that God watch over all of our troops, our members, their families, and all veterans, especially those that have been disabled while performing their duties of great sacrifice to maintain our freedom and precious way of life.
  • Please be respectful and courteous to everyone who comes into the VFW. First impressions are lasting impressions.
  • I realize that a number of you receiving this newsletter are out-of-towners, but those who are local need to come in and support your Post so that we can continue to provide services to needy veterans and their families. Don't support the recession, come in and support the Veterans of Foreign Wars!!
