January 2009 Newsletter
"Happy New Year", Comrades and friends of the Post 3137, Isle of Palms, South Carolina. I will only send the newsletter via email, to "reduce our carbon footprint" and avoid the added cost. The Ladies Auxiliary is kind enough to post the newsletters to our website, so you can always find it on our website: http://www.post3137.vfw.sc/ Select "Monthly Newsletter" from the menu, and choose the month of your choice. ELECTIONS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER:
It's never too early to start thinking about it and we're only a couple of months away from nominations and elections!! Please be considering who you'd like to have serve our Post, and show them support, as they'll need it.
SICK CALL:
Jimmy Woods is fighting his cancer as well as anyone can hope. Please keep Jimmy, Virginia and their family in your thoughts and prayers.
NEW T-SHIRTS:
The Men's Auxiliary still has some of the new Post 3137 t-shirts available for sale. We have a great selection: 3 colors of long-sleeved shirts and 3 colors of short-sleeved shirts to choose from! Be sure to support our Post and show pride in our Post by purchasing these shirts (either for yourself, or as a gift!!). Short sleeved = $16 Long sleeved = $18
PARKING AT THE BEACH:
Bo has offered the Island Time parking lot for VFW members to park in during this off-season. Thanks Bo!!
"HOT HAPPENING" EVENTS:
Every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm:
Wednesday night is Spaghetti night, including homemade sauce, salad and bread!! The price is only $5.00 for dinner at the beach!!
Every Friday from 6pm to 8pm:
Friday night is Burn Your Own Steak Night with baked potato and salad.
The price is only $12.00 for dinner at the beach!!
SUPER BOWL PARTY:
The date for the game is February 1st 2009; this is always a sell out party, and a good time for all (By far the best Super Bowl party I've ever been to!!). See our bartenders for information!!
VALENTINE'S DAY on SATURDAY FEBRUARY 14TH @ 5PM:
Stop by on Valentine's Day for champagne, chocolates, homemade treats, and romantic ocean views at the Isle of Palms VFW. Members and guests are welcome. In addition, we are raffling for a rather large basket (about 3 feet long!!) full of different chocolates, and all sorts of goodies this would make a great Valentine's Gift!!
St. PATTY'S DAY CHILI COOKOFF ON MARCH 14TH:
Have your chili there by 5pm, and judging begins at 5:30pm. We're still working on it, but trying to get our hands on a band/music for that evening. Stay "tuned!!!" (Oh, by the way, $100 PRIZE for the best chili!!)
THIS N' THAT'S:
- I want to say "Thank You" to all who have volunteered time and effort to make VFW Post 3137 a friendly post for all to enjoy, and a valuable entity to support and service our troops and Veterans. We ask that God watch over all of our troops, our members, their families, and all veterans, especially those that have been disabled while performing their duties of great sacrifice to maintain our freedom and precious way of life.
- Please be respectful and courteous to everyone who comes into the VFW. First impressions are lasting impressions.
- I realize that a number of you receiving this newsletter are out-of-towners, but those who are local need to come in and support your Post so that we can continue to provide services to needy veterans and their families.

NEXT MEETING:
Our next scheduled monthly meeting is February 9th 2009.
Unfortunately, that is the day of my surgery, so I will not be at the meeting that evening. (It's amazing the things people will do to miss a meeting)
